How to clean and sanitize POS equipment?

As a store owner, you would be concerned about following proper measures to control the spread of virus and maintain a safe environment for your customers to shop. Health and sanitization are the priority till the pandemic ends. And your customers who are likely to come in contact with the hardware would expect it to be cleaned and sanitized on regular basis.

Some of the retailers have also set up cleaning stations to sanitize their POS hardware every hour. It is normally recommended to clean the POS equipment on a daily basis but since the pandemic, you need to assign a team or divide responsibilities amongst your staff for hourly cleaning and sanitization of POS hardware.

Below are a few do’s and don are to keep in mind when sanitizing your POS (Point of sale) equipment :

1. Use a soft cloth to wipe down the screens but do not press too hard, be gentle.

2. Before sanitizing make sure you wipe out the dust accumulated on the screen.

3. Always wear gloves before cleaning and make sure they are properly sanitized

4. Try to use a stylus instead of a touchpad whenever possible.

5. Encourage contactless payments, ask customers to pay online, and try to limit contact with the equipment

Dont’s :

1. Do not spray onto your POS equipment directly, first spray on the soft cloth then clean.

2. Use alcohol-based cleaners

3. Make sure you clean the screens before it dries

For smaller devices like credit cars, keypads you can use a cotton swab dipped in sanitizer. Remember prevention is better than cure, try to be diligent with cleaning and sanitizing to provide a halt environment for your customers and employees.
